GOHs and VIPs launching the World Company Day initiative

(15 August 2013) Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam – Today, companies shape every aspect of our lives. From creating opportunities, influencing choices, managing resources of the earth, the way business is conducted can and should be for the greater good. Which is why it is so important to advocate the United Nations to have an annual day to celebrate the good that companies are doing all around the world and encourage others to do the same.

It is with this aim that we launch World Company Day (WCD) on 15th August 2013, in Ho Chin Minh, Vietnam as an initiative by Shape the World Conference. The launch event took place in the presence of His Excellency, Võ Tân Thành, Deputy General Secretary of VCCI, General Director of VCCI, HCM Branch witnessed by over 150 business and civil leaders from all over Vietnam. The event which was held at at Novotel Saigon Center Hotel was co-organised by VCCI, Enterprise Bridge by Ministry of Trade and Consulus.

We foresee that this annual event will trigger more conversations about the role of companies and inspire collaboration with the vision of building a global network of companies committed to shaping a better world – said Lawrence Chong, Chairman of WCD and CEO of Consulus. For a start, the signatory companies will commit to celebrating World Company Day on every 15th of August. It seeks to raise consciousness about the role companies play in bringing about greater good through their daily work. By being a signatory of this initiative, companies are joining a global movement who are striving to build organisations that will bring about sustainable good and make a positive difference!

WCD’s Purpose
Raising consciousness about the role companies play in shaping a better world and enhancing collaboration to bring about greater good.

We call on the world’s companies to:
1) Build a more collaborative and meaningful culture in our companies
2) Treat customers and suppliers as partners in shaping a better world
3) Create products and services that will add meaningful value to society

In the spirit of collaboration, companies will be encouraged to share experiences annually on how they have shaped the world into a better world through their actions. Companies who are interested to be a signatory for this initiative can log on to www.worldcompanyday.org. There is no fee for signing up and this programme will be based on the model of advocacy. Through a visible commitment in terms of adopting the WCD logo, through sharing on media channels, this website will also be a platform to feature the good that companies are doing all over the world in making a difference.

About Shape the World Conference
Shape the World conferences have gathered more than 4,000 delegates from around the region since 2005. The conference was launched in Singapore and has since been introduced to fast-growing economies such as Vietnam. The inspiration was simple. While there were numerous branding forums about strategy and tactics, there was none about the role of Asian brands in shaping a new Asia and how to apply practical ideas in business model, HR and branding to bring about real change.
